Ile-de-France: fine particle pollution episode this Saturday, the information threshold exceeded

An episode of fine particle pollution (PM10) is scheduled for this Saturday, January 15, Airparif announced this Friday. The Paris police headquarters has set up the information and recommendation threshold and shares its recommendations.

“The low-dispersion weather conditions lead to an accumulation of particles emitted by local sources, in particular wood heating and road traffic”, thus communicated the forecasters of Airparif, announcing a “degraded to poor air quality in the center of the agglomeration and average for the rest of the region” for the day of Saturday.

Consequently, the Paris police headquarters has set up the information and recommendation threshold and has widely called on the population to limit as much as possible the activities that could aggravate this episode of pollution, namely road travel or even heating and energy production.

“Defer travel if possible”

Among other things, it therefore recommends “deferring road travel if possible” in the region, favoring carpooling and reducing vehicle speed, lowered to 110 km / h on portions of motorways normally limited to 130 km / h , at 90 km/h on the portions of motorways and expressways normally limited to 110 km/h and at 70 km/h on the portions of motorways and expressways normally limited to 90 km/h.

It also advises to “avoid the use of wood in individual heating for pleasure or supplement, which contributes very strongly to the emission of PM10” and to “suspend any authorizations derogating from the ban on the burning of waste greens (including agricultural waste) in the open air’.

Note that this episode is only scheduled for Saturday, because the weather conditions announced by Météo France will then be more favorable. If for the moment, no additional measure – such as the implementation of differentiated traffic or even free parking – has been decreed, it could always be otherwise this Saturday.
