A new popular Korean drama on Netflix, this romantic series quickly won over French subscribers to the platform. But the weekly broadcast of this k-drama infuriates them.
This is the new k-drama that is a hit on Netflix: The Empire of Smiles has climbed to eighth place in the top series viewing on the platform. Broadcast every weekend in South Korea on JTBC and available for streaming on TVING since June 17, this series joined the American giant’s catalog in the rest of the world on the same date.
Created by Sung-il Chun, to whom we already owed the script for the zombie series All of Us Are Dead (also available on Netflix), The Empire of Smiles is a blue flowery and sparkling romantic comedy that has conquered the artichoke hearts among the streaming service’s subscribers.
This 16-episode k-drama tells the story of Gu Woon (Jun-Ho Lee), the heir to The King Group, a conglomerate of luxury hotels, in the midst of a succession war. As if this financial conflict weren’t difficult enough to handle, Gu Woon is exasperated by Cheon Sa-rang (Im Yoon-ah), a dedicated employee, who always has an irresistible smile on her face, but who is unbearable in the eyes of the future heir.
Gu Woon forbids her to smile even though it is part of Cheon Sa-rang’s job requirements. As they meet, Gu Woon and Cheon Sa-rang grow closer and get to know each other better.
Obviously, like any good self-respecting k-drama, fans are impatiently awaiting several episodes for a romantic rapprochement between the two protagonists.

Unfortunately for them, Netflix is sticking to the Korean broadcast for a simulcast release of the series. To have The Empire of Smiles in its entirety, they will have to wait until August 6 for the sixteenth and final episode!
