What film could succeed Anatomy of a fall ? Remember, it was this French drama co-written and directed by Justine Triet which was awarded the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023? The general delegate Thierry Frémaux gave the first clues by revealing the official selection of the 77th edition which must take place from May 14 to 25 in the presence, as usual, of an audience of French and international cinema stars. During a press conference organized at the UGC Normandie cinema in Paris on Thursday April 11, he notably gave the titles of the 19 films that will compete for the Palme d’Or this year, still suggesting that others could be added later.

We learned that five French directors were in the race, including Christophe Honoré with Marcello MioGilles Lellouche with Love phewAgathe Riedinger with Rough diamond which is her very first feature film, or Coralie Fargeat with The Substance. Also, Jacques Audiard could be distinguished once again after having won the precious sesame with Dheepan in 2015. This time, the director competes with Emilia Pereza musical melodrama filmed in Spanish and whose soundtrack was entrusted to singer Camille and her companion Clément Ducol.
