“I’m too old to be Spider-Man”: what role for Donald Glover in a live-action film about Miles Morales?

Popular for his role in the new series “Mr & Mrs Smith”, Donald Glover recently raised the possibility of a live-action film around Miles Morales / Spider-Man and gave news of the film “Community”.

Don’t expect to see Donald Glover throwing up cobwebs anytime soon.

The actor, musician and comedian has a long history with Spider-Man, dating back to 2010, when he and his fans launched an online campaign to get him to audition for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. The role was ultimately given to Andrew Garfield, but Glover has since been part of the Spider-Verse, having played Miles Morales’ uncle, Aaron Davis, aka The Prowler (“Prowler” in the original version) in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 then in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse last year.

If today Donald Glover admits he’s probably “too old” to play Spidey himself, though he wouldn’t be surprised if he got a call to join the Spider-Verse again.

Donald Glover returned to the subject as he took the Vanity Fair lie detector test alongside his Mr. & Mrs. co-star. Smith, Maya Erskine. The latter then asked him if he thought his recent cameo in the Spider-Verse was “Sony’s way of apologizing for not casting him as Spider-Man.

No !”, replied the actor with a laugh. “I don’t think they even thought about it. There will definitely be a live-action Miles Morales eventually, and I think they’re probably more concerned about me being Prowler or something. I’m too old to be Spider-Man now.

Donald Glover recently made a split-second appearance in Across the Spider-Verse, appearing in the animated film in a brief live-action moment. Rediscover the scene below.

The circle has come full circle for the actor who has already voiced Miles in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, in addition to having influenced Miles’ co-creator, Brian Michael Bendis, who was partially inspired by the scene from Community where the character of Donald GloverTroy Barnes, wears pajamas with the image of Spider-Man.

And Community, the film then?

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the New York premiere of Mr. & Mrs. Smith on January 31, Donald Glover took the opportunity to give news of the Community project, the film in preparation since 2022.

I was told that the script – literally, I was texting today – I was told that the script was finished,” he clarified. “I haven’t read it yet. It’s really just a matter of timing. [mais] I participate[au projet]. I am thoroughly.

Finally echoing the famous slogan “six seasons and a movie”, the feature film will bring together all the heroes of the series namely Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong and Donald Glover therefore, while the creator of the original series Dan Harmon will co-sign the screenplay.

Waiting for, Donald Glover stays very busy: in addition to starring in the series Mr. & Mrs. Smithhe and his brother Stephen Glover are also developing a Star Wars film about Lando Calrissian – a character whose younger version he played in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).

Mr. & Mrs. Smith has been available for streaming on Prime Video since February 2.
