Éric Ciotti arrived in Denmark on Tuesday evening. A 24-hour visit to Copenhagen to learn from the Danish migration model, a country that has adopted drastic measures. The boss of the Republicans will also have lunch with the Minister of Immigration. The leader of the LR wishes to apply a similar model in France.
Eric Ciotti arrived in Copenhagen for a 24-hour visit to the Danish capital, punctuated by lunch with the Danish Immigration Minister, to try to understand and be inspired by a country that has taken drastic measures against immigration. The objective: to try to show that an immigration control policy is possible in France.
Reform the Constitution
The first prerequisite for Éric Ciotti is to reform the Constitution in order to be able to give priority to national law over European law, which Denmark has benefited from since 1993. The Republicans also propose to vote for quotas of residence permits each year in Parliament. A measure practiced by the Danes, just like the double penalty, that is to say the expulsion of foreigners who have committed a crime or an offense.
In addition to the repressive aspect, Éric Ciotti is interested in integration. Thus in Denmark, nationality can only be obtained by justifying at least an advanced mastery of the language.
The Danish model is not only successful
But the Danish model is not only successful: the outsourcing of asylum applications to Rwanda, wanted by Copenhagen, is for example a failure. Whatever, the Republicans propose to organize these requests in the consulates of the countries of departure or at the border.
So while the Republicans’ general staff is well aware that the history and geography of the two countries make it impossible to model one model on the other, the results obtained make the right dream: between 2014 and 2019, asylum applications in Denmark fell by 80%.
