In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher, Élisabeth Borne promises to initiate a reform of State Medical Aid in early 2024. The Prime Minister thus responds to a request from the right within the framework of ongoing negotiations on the immigration bill.

Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne promises, in a letter to the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher, to initiate a reform of State Medical Aid in early 2024, responding to a request from the right as part of ongoing negotiations on the project of immigration law.

“I have asked the ministers concerned to prepare the regulatory or legislative developments which will make it possible to initiate a reform of the AME. As you wished, parliamentarians will be fully involved in this work. The necessary developments must be initiated in beginning of 2024”, writes Élisabeth Borne in this letter read by AFP. This reform of the AME, a healthcare system for undocumented foreigners, was a hard point in the negotiations, with many representatives of the majority being opposed to it.

Ciotti awaits commitment on expulsions

The president of the LR party Eric Ciotti is also waiting for “a commitment” to increase the number of expulsions. He also received a government letter on Monday from Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announcing the acceleration of the deadlines for creating new places in detention centers (CRA).

The compromise is now the subject of discussions between seven deputies and seven senators from all sides during the Joint Commission (CMP), with possible adjustments at the margins. Before returning to the hemicycle of both chambers on Tuesday for an identical adoption.
