After the presentation of the main lines of the government’s future immigration bill, the right-wing oppositions do not seem convinced. Among the measures criticized: the creation of a residence permit “jobs in tension”. On the side of Senator François Noël-Buffet, the urgency is to rework the expulsion of people in an irregular situation.
The theme of immigration has not finished being talked about in 2023. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced the major projects of the new immigration bill which will be debated in Parliament next year. With a flagship measure: the creation of a “short-term occupations” residence permit, to compensate for the lack of labor in certain sectors of activity.
A measure which does not really find an echo on the side of the right wing of the hemicycle of the National Assembly, starting with the National Rally, which denounces a campaign of massive regularization of illegal immigrants. “Since the government is unable to regulate the arrival of illegal immigrants in France, and since the latter cannot, once they are here, send them back home, then we are offered to regularize them” , gets annoyed Laurent Jacobelli, FN deputy for Moselle.

This senator, author of a recognized report on immigration last May, quoted by Gérald Darmanin, denounces insufficient proposals on expulsions and calls for extensive diplomatic action with regard to countries which refuse to take back their deported illegal immigrants .
Upcoming changes
“This is work that must be carried out by the Head of State, otherwise we will not succeed”, urges François Noël-Buffet. “I want the law to include the fact that we will not give a visa if we do not have a consular pass. It must be in the text”, he says at the microphone of Europe 1. Faced with opposition, the government says it is ready to make some concessions. But, faced with demands from the Rassemblement National and the Republicans, the immigration bill promises to be widely amended before potentially being adopted early next year.
