The reshuffle is imminent and the identity of the new Prime Minister could be known before Sunday evening. The composition of the government should take place at the beginning of next week. The name of the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, is often mentioned for Matignon. Even if nothing is done, because a man weighs all his weight to guide the decision.

Who will succeed Élisabeth Borne and occupy the post of Prime Minister? This question could be answered in the coming days. One name comes up often, that of the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu. But nothing has been decided for the moment, because, as he has done since 2017, François Bayrou is active behind the scenes.

The number of MoDem deputies weighs on decisions

The president of MoDem is an evening visitor to the Élysée Palace and the latter in the ear of Emmanuel Macron. Moreover, if the Head of State has resigned himself to not appointing Catherine Vautrin to Matignon in May 2022, François Bayrou has a lot to do with it. The High Commissioner for Planning preferred, at the time, the profile of Élisabeth Borne. And, he finally won his case.

It must be said that the weight of MoDem deputies in the National Assembly weighs heavily in the decisions of the President of the Republic. With a very relative majority, and in a context of divisions within his own camp, following the right-wing of the immigration law, the tenant of the Élysée has no other choice than to pay the greatest attention to its historic ally. An element that François Bayrou knows full well.

Consequently, if the name of the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, comes up insistently to occupy the position of Prime Minister, this appointment is far from being decided. The mayor of Pau does not hold in his heart this former member of the Republicans, ex-supporter of Nicolas Sarkozy, perceived as a fine political strategist. This is why he is pushing more for the promotion of an early Macronist: the former Minister of Agriculture, Julien Denormandie.
