Immortals of Aveum: a monster budget and “a truly horrible idea” according to a former developer

Ascendant Studiosfounded by industry veterans, launched last summer Immortals of Aveum, a first-person action shooter with magic. A title published by Electronic Arts which was therefore entitled to a substantial budget and a real promotional campaign, but the game had a huge flop at its launchobliging Ascendant Studios to lay off around 40 employees, or almost half of its workforce.

In a long post discussing layoffs in the video game industry, IGN questioned one of these former employees ofAscendant Studios. The latter reveals thatImmortals of Aveum cost $125 million, with around 85 million for development and 40 million for marketing and distribution. The title clearly didn’t bring in as much, but according to this former developer, it’s not that surprising if the game didn’t meet its audience:

Sure, there was some serious talent on the development team, but trying to make a AAA single player shooter in today’s market was a truly horrible ideaespecially since it was a new license that also tried to take advantage of Unreal Engine 5. What ended up launching was a heavy, repetitive and far too long campaign.

Immortals of Aveum is not completely worth throwing away, it has an average of 69/100 on Metacritic. Its price quickly dropped, you can find it from €22 on Amazon, Cdiscount And there Fnac.
