Officialized through an update to Google Workspace, this new face editing tool is currently deployed on Google Meet, initially on mobile devices. A more extensive deployment is planned from the end of October. But what exactly is a “ face retouching tool » ?
A “beauty filter” on Google Meet
According to Google, the new functionality will allow each user to “ slightly touch up your appearance from the living room before joining the meeting, or during it “. Perfect for (re)making yourself virtual before joining a Meet meeting.
The retouching function was created to allow each user to show their most beautiful face, and this will happen through the presence of two predefined modes. You can benefit from a so-called “Subtle” touch-up, for a very slight smoothing of the complexion, a lightening of the under-eye area and whitening of the eyes, but also (for the aftermath of the party) a “Smoothing” mode. , for a more pronounced effect.
Some also mention teeth whitening, but this is not indicated by Google.
A form of integrated makeup retouching?
For Google Meet, it is also a question of filling a form of absence, this functionality being already present on the competition side, starting with Microsoft Teams. Since this summer, the American giant has even taken a further step by offering a selection of 12 virtual makeup, developed in collaboration with Maybelline and available on Teams.
As mentioned above, the portrait editing function on Google Meet is currently only available through the mobile versions, i.e. on Android and iOS. The gradual rollout began this week, so you might already be able to take advantage of it.
Note that portrait retouching is disabled by default and must be activated manually by the user through the Google Meet settings. Deployment is planned for the end of 2023 for the web version of Google Meet.
