Important: Apple just released iOS 16.5.1 with security fixes


Apple released a series of software updates for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch on Wednesday. The updates in the form of iOS 16.5.1, iPadOS 16.5.1, macOS 13.4.1, and WatchOS 9.5.2 are more than regular bug fixes and feature updates.

According to Apple’s Security Updates website, these updates all fix known security vulnerabilities that were actively exploited by hackers.

Specifically, two security issues have been resolved for iPhone. iPad and Mac: hackers could execute code at the kernel level, and “processing malicious web content could lead to the execution of arbitrary code”.

Macs also affected

The first issue was also present in earlier versions of Apple’s software, which is why the company has also released an update for devices running iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. older Mac operating systems, with Apple also releasing updates for MacOS Monterey and MacOS Big Sur.

The Apple Watch only has one security issue fixed by the latest update, with Apple also releasing WatchOS 8.8.1 for older watches.

There’s a note in the changelog that doesn’t relate to iPhone security – Apple says the update fixes an issue for users who tried to charge it using the Lightning Camera Adapter to USB 3.

You can update all your devices by opening the Settings app, then selecting General & Software Update.
