The Asus Zenfone 9 is compact and handy at 147 x 68 mm. The case is high quality and has a matte finish. The OLED display is 5.9 inches, the 445 ppi make the picture nice and sharp. The fully covered color space and the high contrasts leave nothing to be desired when it comes to image display. The camera, which was actually rated as “good”, still has to put up with criticism: The image quality drops a bit in weak light situations, and the software often overcorrects contrasts and colors.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and eight GB of RAM ensure the very strong performance of the Asus Zenfone 9. The graphics test values are also impressive: even demanding 3D games run effortlessly. The performance is rightly given the top mark of 1.0.
The 4,300 mAh battery does a very good job: the smartphone lasts a full 13:24 hours. The charging time with the included 33 watt power supply is a good 82 minutes, but wireless charging is unfortunately not possible.
In terms of features, the Zenfone 9 has a lot that you would expect from a smartphone in this price range. These include, for example, dual SIM function with double 5G support, IP68 dust and water protection, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C connection with the included charging cable. Unfortunately, there is no memory card slot to expand the internal memory.

“With the Zenfone 9, Asus is launching an unusually compact and yet powerful smartphone. In our test, the impressive graphics performance and the long battery life, as well as the beautiful OLED display, are convincing. The camera is good, but can’t quite keep up with the Measure high-end competition. Surprising are small operating tweaks, a missing function for wireless charging and a now rare 3.5 mm headphone jack.
