On Sunday evening the northern lights could be seen again in Salzburg and other parts of Austria. You could also marvel at the natural spectacle here in September.
Due to strong solar storms taking place on the surface of the sun, the lights can currently be seen here. On Sunday you could admire them heading north over Salzburg’s mountains – then also in Flachgau. The lights were red, which means they originate at an altitude of around 200 kilometers above Earth. Green glowing northern lights occur at lower altitudes. According to experts, the sun is currently in an active phase that will reach its peak in 2025. Northern lights could therefore be seen even more often in Austria.
