Imprisonment for sharing pussy video: Navalny followers sentenced as Rammstein fan

Navalny followers condemned as a Rammstein fan

Shortly after Navalny’s first appearance since his hunger strike, a court convicted a member of the Kremlin’s opponents for disseminating pornography. He had shared the Rammstein video “Pussy”. Amnesty International commented that the activist would certainly not have to be detained for two years because of his taste in music.

A court in Arkhangelsk, Russia, has sentenced a colleague of the Kremlin critic Alexej Navalny to two and a half years in prison after sharing a Rammstein music video online. Andrei Borovikov is accused of spreading pornography, said his lawyer. The 32-year-old, who used to head an office in Navalny, wants to appeal the verdict.

According to a media report in 2014, Borowikow is said to have published the music video for the song “Pussy” by the German metal band Rammstein on the Russian online network VKontakte. One version of the music video contains sex scenes, another shows scantily clad women. It is unclear which version Borovikov posted.

Amnesty International had previously described the trial against Borovikov as “completely absurd”. It is obvious that “he is only punished for his activism, not for his taste in music,” said the human rights organization.

Navalny: “The emperor is naked”

Navalny survived an attack in Russia last August with a neurotoxin from the Novichok group, for which he blames the Kremlin. After his treatment in Germany, he was arrested in Russia on his return in January and later sentenced to more than two and a half years in a camp for alleged violations of probation conditions. The pressure of the authorities on his supporters has increased massively since then, and many of the opposition’s confidants have left the country or are under house arrest.

The classification of Nawalny’s anti-corruption foundation FBK and its network of regional offices as “extremist” is currently being negotiated in a separate process. As a result, the work of the organizations would be banned completely. Members and supporters would face long prison terms. The network has already announced that it will largely be disbanded.

However, the foundation director Ivan Zhdanov announced resistance in a video published on Youtube. Zhdanov said that after the ruling, the foundation may no longer exist as a legal entity. But their work will continue. Navalny himself was seen in public for the first time after the end of his more than three-week hunger strike. He was video-linked to a court hearing. He was emaciated to the skeleton, but as usual combative. To the address of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin he said: “The emperor is naked.”
