Improbable sells Midwinter Entertainment studio to Behavior Interactive


No amount has been disclosed, but we imagine it didn’t take many zeros to convince Improbable to drop its latest studio, especially since Scavengersthe first game from Midwinter Entertainment, has not been very successful since its debut on Steam in the spring of 2021, to say the least.

In fact, as Eurogamer reports, Scavengers isn’t even part of the deal and the game will ultimately never be released on consoles. Despite this failure, the studio of Dead by Daylight saw in Midwinter Entertainment a team of 30 people talented enough to bounce on another project. Unless the team falls into line by developing the contents of Dead by Daylighta scenario that cannot be ruled out.

As a reminder, Midwinter Entertainment was formed in December 2016 in Seattle by Halo alumni (including creative director Josh Holmes) before being bought by Improbable in 2019. Like all of the group’s studios, Midwinter Entertainment was supposed to make use of the SpatialOS technology, which was based on a spiel heard hundreds of times (wider worlds of limitless possibilities, thousands of players interacting togetherthis kind of things).

In fact, after the successive cancellations of all the games supposed to highlight this technology, such as the MMORPG Worlds Adrift and the battle royale Mavericks: Proving Grounds, Improbable decided to stop the costs with the development of games to convert into the conquest of the metaverse, giving way to the Inflexion Games studio (Nightingale) to the people from Tencent Games who were passing by with the broom wagon.
