Improvised – rescuers came to rescue the paraglider with a court loader

Unusual rescue operation for an injured paragliding pilot in Gmunden: The helpers got a farm loader from the farmer and converted it into a lifting platform, on which two helpers dared to become a “fall pilot” on a tree whose branches were no longer really stable.

The Rieder took off from Grünberg in Gmunden at around 1.30 p.m. and wanted to fly over the Traunseestadt to the “Mühlibankerl” landing site. When approaching the landing site, the 26-year-old noticed that another pilot was heading for it. In order to avoid it, the man from Innviertel performed a maneuver, but it went wrong: the glider was initially behind him, folded forward and the 26-year-old lost control . It then landed in the adjacent trees and the umbrella got caught in an approximately 25 meter high ash tree. The paraglider remained uninjured, but was unable to get down on his own. A companion raised the alarm and mountain rescuers, alpine police, patrol police and the fire department responded. Since the brittle branches were very far out and could not be climbed, they improvised: The helpers borrowed a farm loader and basket from a neighboring farmer and temporarily assembled a ladder. A fireman and an alpine police officer were brought to the athlete and were able to bring him down safely.
