In 15-inch version, the MacBook Air is no longer really Air

Apple took advantage of its conference organized as part of WWDC 2023 to unveil a new MacBook Air. His particuliarity ? A large 15 inch screen.

There was a time when the suffix Air had a meaning of lightness and compactness for Apple. The new MacBook Air, unveiled at the WWDC 2023 conference, changes that perception. It is distinguished by the transition to a larger screen: we reach 15 inches, against 13.3 and 13.6 inches in the current range. Gone are the days when the MacBook Air was offered in an 11-inch format.

The “new” MacBook Air obviously takes up the third redesign of the most affordable laptop in the catalog – introduced in 2022 (also during WWDC) and recognizable thanks to its notch. It won’t be the biggest of the MacBooks, since the Pro model climbs to 16 inches in its most expensive versions.

Features

The technical sheet of the 15-inch MacBook Air does not differ too much from that of the 13-inch MacBook Air. We find a house chip, the Apple M2, capable of running a maximum of applications while offering immense autonomy (up to 18 hours in web browsing). The laptop can be configured with up to 24 GB of unified memory and SSD storage that reaches a maximum of 2 TB. All that for 1.49 kg.

The large 15-inch Liquid Retina display is combined with a FaceTime HD (1080p) camera and six speakers offering spatial audio rendering. To watch movies and series on streaming platforms, this MacBook Air offers serious arguments. This is the main promise of this computer: enlarging the screen only serves to provide more comfort, whether for productivity or entertainment. On the other hand, we lose in transportability.
