Tesla is in great shape, and its sales in Germany prove it. In 2021, Elon Musk’s firm surpassed all the manufacturers in the country in the sector of electric vehicles
.

The German television news Tagesschau has compiled a ranking of the ten brands selling the most electric vehicles in the country.

The European automotive sector in the hard

With a total of 39,000 units delivered in the course of 2021, Tesla has become the biggest seller of electric vehicles in Germany. The American company is nevertheless closely followed by Volkswagen with its e-Up and ID.3 models. A first place that can sound like an achievement, because, as specified ElectrekGerman drivers generally favor manufacturers from their own country.

It is important to note that the European automotive sector is going through a period of crisis: affected by the shortage of electronic components which affects many industries, it is also affected, more generally, by economic difficulties following the Covid-19 pandemic. . As a result, the German car market fell by 10% in 2021, and almost all manufacturers in the country saw their sales fall last year compared to 2020. Mercedes-Benz and Audi are particularly affected with respective declines of 25 % and 15%.

At the same time, Tesla signed a record year in 2021 with nearly 1 million vehicles delivered worldwide. The company’s sales in Germany increased 137% year over year.

A bright European future for Tesla?

Tesla achieves such results across the Rhine while all vehicles are delivered from the United States or China, its gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg not yet having come into operation. It is certain that when this is done, Elon Musk’s company will strengthen its presence on the Old Continent, which gives it a glimpse of a very promising future despite the recall of 700,000 vehicles for trunk problems.

The manufacturer also has reason to rejoice when we see the success of the electric vehicle sector. In Germany, despite a difficult year for the automotive industry, sales of all-electric vehicles increased in 2021 and now account for 14% of the market. The switch to electric is undoubtedly one of the most significant events in the history of the automobile, and many are those who are concerned about the ability of certain historic manufacturers to adapt to this change in the profit from newcomers with innovative concepts… Tesla’s performance in Germany is the perfect illustration of this trend.

Here is the ranking of the 10 best-selling electric vehicles in Germany in 2021:

  1. Tesla Model 3
  2. e-up! from Volkswagen
  3. Volkswagen ID.3
  4. ZOE from Renault
  5. Smart EQ Fortwo
  6. Hyundai Kona Electric
  7. Skoda Enyaq iV
  8. Volkswagen ID.4
  9. Fiat 500th
  10. BMW i3
