In 2022, Apple iPhones largely dominated the top 10 best-selling models


Between the semiconductor crisis and the worrying rise in inflation, 2022 has not been a good year for the smartphone market. The majority of manufacturers have seen their sales decline. This is the case of Apple, whose recent financial results are worrying. But once again, the Cupertino company has pulled out of the game against its competition.

This is indicated by the latest ranking of the 10 best-selling smartphones last year, produced by the firm Counterpoint. In this list, eight models are iPhones and the remaining two are from the Samsung brand. The first three places also go to the firm at the apple.

The big champion is the iPhone 13, which alone accounted for 5% market share. Second place went to the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 2.6% market share. Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 14 Pro Max closes the podium (1.7%). This is the first time that an ultra premium model has surpassed the standard and Pro models.

The too timid changes of the iPhone 14 (7th position, all the same) did not convince enough. Note also the presence of the iPhone 12 (6th position), released in 2020, and the absence of the 14 Plus. The price positioning of the latter, quite close to the Pro models, should not have helped to arouse enthusiasm.

Samsung far behind

The 4th and 10th places go to Samsung and its Galaxy A13 and A03, which respectively represented 1.6 and 1.1% market share over the year. No mid-range or high-end smartphone from South Korea has been able to sneak into the rankings.

Note that all of Apple’s competitors release many more models, which makes the exercise necessarily more complicated. The ranking demonstrates in any case the capital importance of the most affordable models for the fruity brand.

In 2021, Xiaomi had managed to place the Redmi 9 in the list, but the Chinese manufacturers were conspicuous by their absence the following year.
