Almost two years after its revelation, the Xpeng G9 offers a small mid-career restyling. After showing its exterior, the electric SUV now reveals its driving position, which hardly changes compared to the previous version.
If you don’t know Xpeng yet, you should hear a lot about it soon. Indeed, the Chinese firm founded in 2014 is slowly starting to arrive in Europe, while it has already been marketing its P5 sedan in Norway for several months.
A little restyling
But the manufacturer, which should soon also make its arrival in France like MG, BYD or even Nio, offers other models in its catalog. Among them, the P7 and the G9, which will also be sold in France a little later. Unveiled a little less than two years ago, the latter takes the form of a large SUV that hunts on the lands of the Tesla Model Y.
And after a few years of career, nowit’s time for him to treat himself to a little restyling, which all the same intervenes very early compared to the rest of the cars on the market. This is how the Chinese manufacturer unveiled yesterday the first images of the exterior of its electric SUV on its account Weibo. To tell the truth, the evolutions are rather discrete.
Among them, the arrival of new body colors, namely green, black, white, gray. Nothing very original then, while the SUV retains its front face and its overall proportions. The dimensions also remain unchanged, with a length of 4.89 meters for 1.94 meters wide and 1.68 meters high.
But the manufacturer had not lifted the veil on the driving position of this new version, leaving the suspense still hanging over. It’s finally done, and to tell the truth, there aren’t really any surprises. Indeed, if the exterior hardly evolves, there is no reason for this to be the case with the interior. So, the presentation remains almost the same to the previous version.
Always very tech
We find a very modern dashboard, which integrates not one but two large touch screens, whose diagonal has not been communicated by Xpeng. If one is rather intended for the driver, the second is placed in front of the passenger. However, we do not know if these digital tiles are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is however quite unlikely.
The website Car News China also points out that the electric SUV is getting new mood lighting and seats covered in perforated leather. These are heated, ventilated and massage. If the Xpeng G9 is equipped with a large digital handset, still no trace of a head-up display on this version. Which should not please customers who were already criticizing this absence on the old version.
The wheelbase remains strictly unchanged, always displayed at 3.0 meters. Same thing under the hood, since the electric SUV retains its range of engines. We find an entry-level variant boarding a 78.2 kWh battery offering a range of 702 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. Which corresponds to 596 WLTP kilometres. The second version has an 89 kWh battery and four-wheel drive, but its autonomy is limited to 650 kilometers CTLCor 552 WLTP kilometres.
In question, a higher consumption, which proves to us once again that a large accumulator is not necessarily a good idea. Fortunately, the vehicle compensates with a very fast charge, since only 5 minutes are needed to recover 100 kilometers, with a power of 480 kW, thanks to its 800 volt architecture. The 4C version allows you to go from 10 to 80% in just 15 minutes!
The price should be revised upwards, while it is currently displayed from 309,900 yuan, or 39,488 euros. A price that should increase when it arrives in Europe.
