By using new technologies, Amazon has managed to achieve impressive productivity gains on its sites.
Amazon has always believed in robots, so much so that the company presented them in particular as guarantors of employee safety. An assertion justified by the fact that they could take the place of employees when it came to carrying out difficult tasks in uncomfortable positions, thereby reducing the risk of injury. But the first, and best reason, is that they significantly increase productivity!
Sequoia is faster than you
Amazon warehouses from Houston to Texas have seen changes that could put many people out of work. It has in fact deployed a robot system called “Sequoia” intended to improve security, but also delivery times. And at this level, we can say that the results are already there.
Because according to the Wall Street Journal, Sequoia reportedly increased order fulfillment by 25%. Better yet, search and storage speeds reportedly skyrocketed with Sequoia, with a 75% improvement in productivity in these cases.
The alliance of robot and AI
To achieve this result, Amazon deployed an artificial intelligence solution (it had already done so to boost its sales) and robots. AI allows these machines, equipped with robotic arms, to recognize the products that must be selected for a particular order, a machine which then selects them to take them to the sorting stage.
Amazon is one of the companies at the forefront of robotics. It had already in the past presented some of its innovations in the field, such as the Proteus robot which the public was able to discover in 2022. The latter, designed in the form of a vacuum cleaner, moves by itself to place itself under the cart that will need to be raised. Will the company ever get to a point where it no longer needs human employees at all?
