In Braunau – serious accident! Car captures Austria’s professional cyclist

Professional cyclist Sebastian Schönberger suffered multiple injuries in a training accident. The 27-year-old was hit by a car at an intersection in his home district of Braunau and suffered a metacarpal fracture, further fractures to his arm and muscle injuries to his thighs, deep abrasions, a laceration above his eye and another wound to his head.

“But I can speak of great luck that I’m still standing on both feet. In view of the collision, all guardian angels helped to ensure that nothing worse happened,” explained Schönberger on his Facebook account. Among other things, he missed the Paris-Nice long-distance journey starting on Sunday. In France, on the other hand, Felix Großschartner, Gregor Mühlberger and Marco Haller will be at the start. The gravel road classic “Strade Bianche” with start and finish in Siena will already take place in Italy on Saturday. Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar, world champion Julian Alaphilippe and the Austrians Michael Gogl and Patrick Konrad will be pedaling in Tuscany. The Upper Austrian from the French B&B Hotels team will be out for several weeks.
