According to researchers from a Beijing university, many couples in the country are formed between people of the same blood group. A peculiarity observed by scientists but which remains unexplained. Nevertheless, Chinese researchers put forward several hypotheses.

AB+, O-, A-… Blood type has almost become a love criterion for Chinese couples. Researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing have just published the results of a large study, involving nearly a million couples across the country. Their work shows that romantic relationships tend to be formed a little more often between people of the same blood type, particularly among people with type O.

In the study, the scientists observed that even taking into account several factors favoring the rapprochement between two people, such as social and ethnic origin, physique, intelligence quotient or even profession, there is always a tendency which emerges: a few more couples with the same blood type are formed, whatever happens.

A will or an unconscious attraction?

Scientists recognize that this link is still enigmatic, but several avenues can already be considered. A first reason would be that some Chinese voluntarily choose a spouse of the same blood type. A trend that is already observed in several Asian countries, such as Japan, Korea and Taiwan. In these countries, it is as common to ask someone their blood type as their astrological sign.

Another explanation would be that distinct characters correspond to each blood group, which would facilitate communication between people of the same group. These hypotheses remain to be scientifically demonstrated, not to mention that this study should also be conducted internationally. Enough to check if love and blood go hand in hand everywhere.
