In Creil, the difficult dialogue around gender and sexual violence

“Deconstruct stereotypes. “ This is the watchword of Elisabeth Moreno, Friday September 17, at the House of the city of Creil (Oise). The minister responsible for equality between women and men came to dialogue with local actors of gender-based violence and equal opportunities. It is under the eyes of Olympe de Gouges and Simone Veil, to whom posters pay tribute, that the discussion begins. Three associations take the floor in turn. Female entrepreneurship, women’s rights, emancipation of young girls, prevention of violence: the causes are many but are common.

Mme Moreno, pressed by his collaborators between each intervention, takes the time to thank these “Women fighting for women”. “In the land of human rights, women die because they were born women, she exclaims. They die because they fall in love with a person who doesn’t love them enough to respect them. ” Shaina Hansye’s name is not mentioned once during the exchange. However, the shadow of the young girl victim of gang rape at 13, then stabbed and burned alive, in October 2019, at the age of 15, hangs over the House of the city of Creil. The Minister visited the family earlier in the morning.

The case emerged again the day after the publication of an article in the World, September 5. The reactions were numerous, in particular among the elected representatives of the National Assembly (RN). Marine Le Pen has denounced a “Talibanization” of “Certain neighborhoods” French. For Stéphane Ravier, RN senator of Bouches-du-Rhône, this drama is a direct consequence of mass immigration. Elisabeth Moreno, who says to herself “Disgusted” to see this drama “Instrumentalised”, insists, Friday: gender equality is “The great cause of the five-year term” and violence against women is a “Scourge” who “Ignores geographic or social boundaries”.

“A prohibition to say what is happening”

Hafida Mehadji has been following Shaina’s family file since 2017. Former president of the Femmes sans frontières association, she works with other structures to help young girls in situations similar to that of adolescents. Mme Mehadji describes a girl “Emancipated”, “to the joy of living” communicative, despite the hardships she was going through. The former association president, now coordinator at the Creil second chance school, was not invited to the round table with the minister. Within Femmes sans frontières, which works in the heart of the Plateau district, she regularly sees young girls who are victims of sexual violence who do not dare talk about it. Shortly after Shaina’s death, she set up a debate with other structures to which mothers and young girls are invited.
