Police arrested a man in his 60s on Sunday who confessed to stabbing his 56-year-old wife to death in a village on the southern Greek island of Crete, media and NGOs deploring a “new feminicide” in the country. The tragedy occurred in the home of the Greek couple in the village of Ano Malaki, located in the prefecture of Rethymno in Crete during a marital dispute, according to initial police information.

The police were tipped off by the couple’s son while the killer turned himself in to authorities by confessing to his crime, the Greek News Agency (Ana) reported. Media and feminist NGOs have denounced “this new feminicide, which adds to the long list of feminicides” in recent years.
