In front of the family – Wanderer (76) fell to his death on the Schafberg

A 76-year-old Czech fell to his death on Monday while hiking on the Schafberg in the Salzburg part of the Salzkammergut in front of his family. As the police announced, the man stumbled and fell over a 30 meter high vertical rock face before he slid another 50 meters over a steep area into the depth.

The man and his family took the cog railway to the Schafberg – and hiked over the “Purtschellersteig” in the direction of St. Wolfgang. Before the eyes of his relatives, the man stumbled after walking for almost two hours. He lost his footing and fell a good 80 meters over a vertical rock face and steep meadows and gravel meadows.

He died on the spot. The St. Wolfgang mountain rescue service brought his relatives safely down to the valley.
