In Germany, these two Expendables have the same voice!

Did you know that in Germany, two stars of the “Expendables” saga, and not the least, were voiced by the same actor?

The big guys from the Expendables saga return on October 18 for a fourth adventure on the big screen. On this occasion, we bring you an astonishing anecdote which comes to us from across the Rhine. Did you know that in the German version of the first three films of the franchise, it is one and the same dubbing actor who lends his voice to Sylvester Stallone AND Arnold Schwarzenegger?

A very big name in dubbing in Germany, Thomas Danneberg, who died on September 30 at the age of 81, regularly lent his voice to Sly and Schwarzie, notably in the Rocky, Rambo and Terminator sagas. So, when the two men, whose rivalry began with a flowerpot throw, were brought to face each other for the first time in Expendables, Danneberg doubled… both!

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger sharing a few scenes in the Expendables saga, Thomas Danneberg had to work vocally to differentiate them. The German thus gave Stallone a low and hoarse voice, while he adopted a much lighter grain for Schwarzenegger. Note that in the film Evasion, another collaboration between the two legends of action cinema, Danneberg only lends his voice to the first named.

Thomas Danneberg, who had a modest career as a “physical” actor, began his career in the dubbing industry in 1964. An impressive career since in addition to Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the German lent his voice to John Travolta (notably in Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Pulp Fiction), Dan Aykroyd (notably in Ghostbusters), Rutger Hauer, John Cleese and Terence Hill. Thomas Danneberg stopped his duties as a voice actor a few years ago due to health problems.

Sylvester Stallone, who recently spoke about his incredible longevity, will be starring inExpend4bles on October 11.
