David Gallienne has been known to the general public since his victory at “Top Chef” in 2020. The same year, this pure Norman took control of the Jardin des plumes, the gastronomic hotel-restaurant in Giverny, which he managed to keep the star. Located less than 80 kilometers from Paris, the village of Eure dear to Monet attracts tourists from all over the world and ever more city dwellers in search of a breath of rural air. The chef has therefore opened five guest rooms and an apartment, 900 meters away, in the old house from the beginning of the 20th century.e century of a milkman. As a tribute, the interior is painted in the color of milk, from floor to ceiling, which makes the place very soothing. As in the main establishment, the rooms are named after species of hens, a nod to the gallinaceae that peck in the surroundings.

The Marans apartment is an elegant, immaculate cocoon, at the back of the house, on the ground floor. Antique wooden furniture, a bouquet of dried flowers and old books warm up the living room overlooking the large lawn. In the bedroom, the bed placed on a platform faces a painting of water lilies, of Monet, on a standby screen – a shot that makes you smile. The breakfast served on the ground floor, near the fireplace, also serves as a cliché, tasty and comforting, this one: the faulte (Norman brioche) and the bourdelot (local apple turnover), served with honey from the village and jams prepared by David Gallienne’s mother.

800 meters away: pay homage to the master

In the small cemetery located in the parish enclosure of the Sainte-Radegonde church, bent onlookers wander around, frowning, in search of the tomb of Claude Monet, who died in 1926, at the age of 86. It is located behind the Romanesque building, on the right side when looking from the street. You have to keep your eyes open to find it, because earth and flower petals cover the name of the leader of the Impressionists engraved on the tombstone.53-55, rue Claude-Monet. Free and free walk.

950 meters away: discover a hidden workshop

The Hôtel Baudy was the headquarters of the Impressionists. The painters Theodore Robinson, Camille Pissarro and Theodore Earl Butler stayed there. Paul Cézanne also took up residence there. To enable their guests to work on rainy days, the landlords had a workshop built under a glass roof in the garden. The place has remained in its own juice, with an easel, brushes and paintbrushes.
