In Guinea, the junta announces the dissolution of the government

The head of the junta in power in Guinea announced, Monday February 19, the dissolution of the government in office since July 2022, according to a video posted on the presidency’s Facebook page.

“The government is dissolved” And “the management of current affairs will be ensured by the directors of cabinets, the secretaries general and the deputy secretaries general until the establishment of a new government”, said a spokesperson for the junta, General Amara Camara, in front of around twenty uniformed soldiers, some of whom were masked and carrying weapons. He gave no reason for the dissolution of the government, nor set a date for announcing a new one.

The junta, headed by Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, who took power at the end of September 2021, agreed under international pressure to return the place to elected civilians by the end of 2024, time to carry out profound reforms, she says.
