In Hartberg – seven-year-old seriously injured in a bicycle fall

A seven-year-old girl rode a bicycle around 95 meters down a steep slope in Hartberg on Saturday afternoon and fell down.

In the afternoon, the seven-year-old visited a school friend and around 3:30 p.m. rode her bike in the yard of the property. The 39-year-old mother of the school friend was mowing the lawn at this point, the girls were in their sight. Suddenly the child steered the bicycle in the direction of the steeply sloping vineyard adjacent to the courtyard. The 39-year-old observed this, immediately ran after the girl and called to her to brake and jump off the bike. However, she was unable to catch up with the girl.

The child rode down the 95-meter-steep slope and jumped his bike over a two-meter-high wall overgrown with bushes. She then fell and was injured to an unspecified degree.

The 39-year-old carried the child back to the property and immediately notified the emergency services. An emergency doctor carried out the first aid, and the crew of the Christophorus 16 rescue helicopter flew the child to the Graz regional hospital.
