In Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur metro crash leaves more than 200 injured

More than 200 passengers were injured on Monday, May 24, in the collision of two subway trains in Kuala Lumpur, according to Malaysian police, who favor the accidental track.

“The trains collided and the impact knocked the passengers to the ground” on a line in the center of the Malaysian capital, not far from the Petronas Towers, police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said. Of the 200 or so injured, 47 are in serious condition, police said.

One of the two trains, which had just been repaired and was running empty, was traveling for some reason for the time unknown, on the same underground track as the other train, crowded on Monday evening.

Criminal trail initially ruled out

On social networks circulated images of the injured being treated in the emergency rooms of the city’s hospitals, as well as of the interior of the crowded damaged train, with wounded on the ground among the shards of glass.

The criminal trail was initially ruled out, the accident apparently due to a communication problem. The two trains were going at low speed (20 km / h for one, 40 for the other) at the time of the collision, according to the police.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin assured Facebook asking the transport ministry and the Kuala Lumpur metro operator “A thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident”.
