In Olivier’s eyes: certain “censored” confidences? Olivier Delacroix says it all

For twelve years, he has played the role of conveyor of emotions with his show In the eyes of Olivier, of which he is launching a new season this Wednesday, January 10 at 8:55 p.m. on France 2.

What themes will be covered this season?

OLIVIER DELACROIX: We start with the forgotten victims of domestic violence, namely children. Then there will be medical errors and obstetric violence, transclasses, the precariousness of the agricultural world, the transmission of trauma and memory failures.

For the third year in a row, you are having personalities testify in addition to anonymous people. For what ?

Yes it’s true, this season we will have Chris Marks, Guillaume Canet, Jeremy Ferrari, Cindy Bruna… Many refused our invitation, and I can understand that, but their presence allows the viewer to verify that in the face of adversity, there is no longer glitter or celebrity that holds.

How much time do you need with each witness to reach this level of confidence?

It takes days, it couldn’t be done in an hour. We shoot a lot on weekends, because I’m live on Europe 1 from Monday to Friday. The team arrives on Friday afternoon and begins filming the exteriors, the house… I arrive in the evening and spend the whole weekend interviewing the witness, we have lunch and dinner together… When I leave again, I always feel like I’m leaving a friend.

Contrary to what people imagine, the camera very rarely captures tears, whether yours or those of witnesses…

You know in the show about peasants, I collected the testimony of a woman whose husband committed suicide under the same conditions as my father. You can imagine that this upset me, that we cried a lot, but what would be the point of seeing me cry? The silences are much more important.

Do you ever censor confidences that go too far?

Of course. The trust that develops can lead people to go very far in their confessions. It’s up to me, it’s up to us, to place the right cursor, to protect them.
