In Paris, garbage collectors disgusted by the “strike breakers” from the South

The discussion with the management, on this Monday, March 20, will have been short-lived. At the exit, a union official summarizes, in front of about forty employees and activists involved: “There is no progress. » The strike days will not be paid, it was expected. But the concessions offered by management are minimal. No one seems surprised. “They don’t care about us, continues before the assembly Abdelkader Mekhti, CGT central delegate of the Pizzorno group, specialist in the collection and treatment of waste. Those who want to continue raise their hands. » The arms are raised. The strike, which began on March 7, against the pension reform but also for salary increases, is renewed.

In Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne), in front of the premises of Pizzorno Environnement, located in the middle of an industrial zone, the time of braziers and piled up pallets is however over. Only a few traces remain on palisades. Here, a sticker quoting Prévert: “When garbage collectors go on strike, garbage collectors are outraged. » There, a tagged slogan: “+ garbage cans in the street, – garbage in power”. The picket line, the sound system and the red flags were taken down on March 16.

That day, several dozen CRS came to dislodge the strikers, trade unionists and other activists who were preventing the dump trucks from getting out. The management of Pizzorno, who complains to M The magazine of the World THE “blocking of its activities by a group of people outside the company”, had just successfully asked the Créteil court to authorize the use of force to unblock the deposit. But since then, unlike the morning teams, less mobilized, the evening teams remain on strike.

With some 250 employees in Vitry, Pizzorno takes care of waste collection in the 15e arrondissement of Paris and in 24 communes of Val-de-Marne. Among the various private operators working in ten districts of the capital, the company, based in Draguignan (Var), is the only one to experience a major strike. This is perhaps no coincidence: within the group, social dialogue is often more than tense.

A perfectly legal system D

In 2019, in Lyon, the company of 2,000 employees had used temporary workers to stop a strike. The illegal practice had been unmasked. And today, if the strikers of Pizzorno keep a bitter taste of the evacuation of March 16, they are even more ulcerated by the strategy of their company for, they say, “break the strike”. In this regard, management has not lacked inventiveness, bringing in group employees from the south of France and the Lyon region. A perfectly legal system D, for a big stake.
