A new era is dawning in Phoenix, United States. Uber has just established a partnership with the company Waymo to introduce driverless taxis.

This is not new in the USA, we could even say that it has become a fad in certain municipalities: autonomous taxis. In San Francisco, the Cruise service was implemented. A little ride that won’t last long, because it has just been banned for safety reasons. In Phoenix, a different story is playing out, since Uber and Waymo launched their own taxi fleets yesterday, October 26.

A revolution in urban travel?

From now on, when a person wants to order a ride in Phoenix, the application will give them the choice: UberGreen, UberX, Uber Comfort, Uber Comfort Elctric and… a Waymo vehicle if one is available in their area. The option is obviously not obligatory, but convinced users can even set their application so that it only offers them Waymo taxis.

In terms of price, does it sting? Well no, they remain the same as a classic race. As soon as the robotaxi arrives, customers unlock it with their smartphone and the Uber app. Once comfortably seated inside it, all they have to do is press a button for the race to start. During the journey, assistance from the Uber platform remains accessible at any time.

Phoenix residents are taking a small step into the future of mobility. Hoping that this one will be followed by many others, and that Waymo does not end up like its competitor Cruise in San Francisco. Road safety in the USA is already not doing very well, we should not add another layer.
