To conclude this edition of the agricultural show, the organizers organized a transhumance on the Champs-Élysées this Sunday, March 6. Sheep went down the avenue, the last exit before returning to their native Bearn country.
Like a symbol. Rural France marched on the Champs-Élysées on Sunday March 6 to close the agricultural show. Nearly 2,000 sheep walked down “the most beautiful avenue in the world” in front of amused Parisians, but also a smiling Jean Castex and the Béarn deputy Jean Lassalle. Some onlookers even confessed to never having seen sheep before.
The festivities began with songs from four Béarnais polyphonic groups, installed on a small stage in the middle of the Champs-Élysées. According to the Béarn Basque Country Tourism Attractiveness and Development Agency, this parade aimed to “bring together Parisians and city dwellers around a unique, warm, educational and supportive event”. Then, entrenched on the avenue Marceau, the organizers released the sheep towards the famous avenue which connects the Arc de Triomphe and the place de la Concorde.

A Béarnaise madness signed Jacques Pédehontaà, mayor of the small rural town of Laàs, 50 kilometers from Pau, a great defender of “positive rurality”. Its objective was to convey “an image of reconciliation” between “rural France and urban France, which understand each other less and less” when they “need” each other.
