In pictures, Papadakis and Cizeron proud gold champions on the podium

Crowned Olympic champions in ice dancing on Monday, Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron received their gold medals a few hours later.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron became Olympic champions in ice dancing on Monday in Beijing. The duo climbed to the top step of the podium thanks to two programs completed without any errors, which also earned them a world record for points. The two, who in South Korea four years ago had won the money after in particular a problem with a suit that had come off, took their revenge. Aged 26 and 27, the quadruple world champions have won everything. On Monday they beat the Russians Sinitsina and Katsalapov, and the Americans Hubbel and Donohue. They succeed the legendary French duo formed by Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat, who won Olympic gold in Salt Lake City 20 years ago.

“It was four years which seemed very long and very difficult, because it was the moment for which we were working. We have honored the past four years. We are super happy, ”said Gabriella Papadakis at the microphone of France Télévisions. “I think I’ve never been so stressed in my life,” added Guillaume Cizeron. But there was a certain serenity because we know that we can trust our training. We can trust each other on the ice. All this training, these 17-18 years of partnership together, of moments on the ice… We had all this baggage on which to rest”.
