What is an RIO code?
We are talking here about a unique code given to each telephone number, which allows it to be identified with any mobile operator. This code is made up of 12 characters, which can be broken down as follows:
- XX: the first two characters identify your operator
- X: the following character identifies you (E for a company, P for an individual)
- XXXXXX: the six characters that follow correspond to your contract number
- XXX: the last three characters form a control code that is generated based on the previous information.
A “universal” telephone number has been set up: 3179. By calling it, your RIO code will be dictated to you. If you don’t have paper or a pen handy, don’t panic: an SMS containing your code will be sent to you immediately.
Thus, when subscribing to your new operator, you will only have to communicate this code to keep your number. Namely that in France, the portability is free and is done in one working day.
