Vaccination rate for under 55-year-olds “remarkably low” – around 50 special vaccination campaigns are fixed
In Salzburg, according to the Red Cross, registration for a booster vaccination against the coronavirus will be possible from mid-September. “The system is currently being adapted for this”, informed state rescue commander Anton Holzer on Friday. Meanwhile, health officer LHStv appealed. Christian Stöckl again to the under 55-year-olds to get vaccinated, because here the vaccination rate is remarkably low at around 45 percent.
Especially among the twelve to 45 year olds there is still a lot of catching up to do when it comes to the first vaccination, according to Stöckl. He pointed out that the number of infections is currently highest among the young population.
According to the e-vaccination pass, 53.74 of the total population in Salzburg are currently fully immunized, as a state spokesman said. So far, 608,202 vaccine doses against Covid-19 have been given to Salzburg residents, 320,253 people have received at least one partial vaccination.
For an effective fight against the pandemic, significantly more vaccinations are needed, because for a “halfway normal autumn” a vaccination rate of at least 70 percent is necessary, said the health officer. According to national correspondence, there were 15 Covid 19 patients in the hospital on Friday morning, four of them in the intensive care unit. All but two patients are not vaccinated, the intensive care patients are also unvaccinated. “This confirms to me that the current vaccines provide the best possible protection against severe courses that put a strain on our health system.”
In order to accelerate the vaccination coverage of the population, open vaccination days are also offered in the last week of August and the first week of September. On August 26th and September 2nd, vaccinations will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. without registration in every vaccination route in the country as well as in St. Johann, Zell am See, Hallein and St. Michael. The vaccine Biontech / Pfizer is used so that all 12 to 18 year olds can also take advantage of the offer. Around 50 special vaccination campaigns are fixed. At the start of school, there should also be special offers at the schools.
Rescue commander Holzer explained that the procedure for the planned refresher vaccination in autumn was the same as before. After receiving the vaccination invitation by email or SMS, the appointment can be made online. “If you don’t have an online option, you can call the hotline 1450 again.”
