In schools, desperately looking for replacements

There was a time when recruiting a teacher by “Classified ad” was almost a joke – of the ” bad joke “, report the principals. The idea was to alert public opinion to replacement defects, to denounce the “Holes in the racket”.

Return to school after return to school, faced with recurring difficulties in finding candidates, many school principals confide that they have resolved to ” System D “ : post an offer on Leboncoin or in the local press, call on Pôle emploi, ask an education assistant here, there a disabled student’s companion to improvise as a teacher. Play the “Solidarity between teachers”, they also tell, asking the “Present” to take the class of “Absent” (through a course exchange or overtime).

The primary school is not left out: it must, when the replacements are missing, distribute the students between the classes (“Even if the sanitary protocol requires avoiding mixing”, storm a director in the North), or even leave the doors open and have a teacher work straddling two rooms.

Two months without French

This “Acute crisis” of replacement, as teachers say, parents also denounce it. It is in this re-entry, in a college of the Academy of Versailles, a class of 4e which adds up two lost months of math and French lessons. Or these two classes of 5e, in a college in Seine-Saint-Denis, which do not have French lessons, and four classes which no longer have history-geography.

In an elementary school in Seine-Saint-Denis, always, a class of CE2 saw the replacement of a teacher who had not presented, in September, to make herself wear pale. “Some days, we left the children in the hallway, playing or drawing pictures, says a mom. Then, it was the replacement of the replacement who did not show up… We have very little visibility over the rest of the year. ” Same type of testimony in a kindergarten where, in two weeks, four substitutes followed one another in front of pupils of small section. “It’s simple, no child knows who the teacher is anymore”, regrets a parent.

“The replacements pool is dry”, Are we hammering in the union ranks, despite the commitment made by the Ministry of Education in 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 epidemic, to inject up to 6,000 contract workers for the first degree, and 8,000 educational assistants in middle and high schools, as part of “Exceptional means” (not all consumed) which ended with the summer holidays. The “ lacks “ are prior to the health crisis, we note on the side of the FSU, recalling that, year after year, teaching competitions do not ” full “, and require a large number of replacements to be assigned to a full-time position. The rise in resignations does not help.
