In 2014, Senegalese President Macky Sall launched work on the Diamniadio urban hub, a titanic project which plans to build 40,000 housing units, stadiums, set up fifteen ministries there, an industrial park and develop a ” smart city”, but also to relieve congestion in Dakar, the country’s capital.
Workers from the sub-region have flocked to find employment there, but many describe degrading working conditions and non-compliance with labor laws.
