In Simferopol, the capital of Crimea, the anniversary of annexation by Russia was celebrated, as in Moscow.

On Friday, a ceremony was held in Simferopol to mark the eighth anniversary of the referendum on Russia’s annexation of Crimea. Such a celebration takes on a special image as Russia launched its troops in Ukraine at the end of February. Some participants had placed on their posters or vehicles the letter “Z”, inscribed on the Russian tanks launched in Ukraine and taken over to show support for what the Kremlin refuses to call war.

During this time, a giant concert was organized at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow, in the presence of Vladimir Putin. Faced with a crowd that seemed won over to his cause – and whose part left the stadium shortly after the start of the event-, waving tricolor flags, the Russian president gave a speech broadcast on television, the retransmission of which was strangely cut off in the middle of a sentence. Behind him were the slogans “For a world without Nazism”, in reference to Ukraine’s so-called “denazification” mission, and “For Russia”. “It was truly a genocide. Stopping that was the goal of this special operation,” he said. “We haven’t seen a unit like this for a long time,” he added, assuring that the Russian soldiers had been welcomed with open arms by the Ukrainians.
