Google announced it yesterday, the company is starting the integration of Google Meet within the files Google Docs, Slides and Sheets. You will be able to attend meetings directly from the document you have opened.

A way for Google to adapt to changes in the world of work resulting, in particular, from the health crisis, and giving pride of place to telework.

Gather Features

Until now, when you were on a Docs, Slides or Sheets file in the Google suite, you only had one possible button to click on for a meeting: ” Present at a meeting which allowed you to show your slides to the participants. Also, Google has started rolling out a new replacement button, which you should see appearing within the next 30 days.

Now a button Meet » will allow you either to join a meeting scheduled in your calendar, or to enter a meeting with a code. A sidebar will then open on the right of the window with all the options and settings available; you can see up to eight participants while you take notes, for example.

In this bar, a button ” Share will be available at the bottom, allowing you to broadcast the selected tab of your Doc or your slides, live. Google does not intend to stop there in expanding Meet’s options since the Picture-in-Picture extension and emojis should soon arrive on the Web version.

Google Meet

  • Integration with the Google ecosystem
  • Simple to handle
  • No Google account required for attendees

Google Meet is a handy option for creating and participating in video meetings if you use the Google ecosystem on a daily basis. But, above all thought of as an extra service to complement other tools, it is an incomplete solution that will have a hard time convincing the most demanding users.
