In the Brucknerhaus – Linz New Year’s Concert: roaring into the new year

The Bruckner Orchestra and percussionist Christoph Sietzen delighted at the joint New Year’s concert in Linz with a program that was quite unusual for the occasion.

The new year began surprisingly at the New Year’s Concert in the Brucknerhaus with an almost unknown program that was happily received by the packed hall. Disciplined, the visitors first listened to John Cage’s legendary 4’33” rest time. At the premiere of Oskar Jockel’s work “Asche ist Weiß” the most delicate soundscapes gradually developed into thunderous agglomerations of sound. The percussionist Christoph Sietzen continued his wealth of ideas as a soloist in Georg Friedrich Haas’ “Concert for Klangwerk and Orchestra” on the walls of sound and the many timpani and drums to the great admiration of the audience Holst describes the seven planets with their sensual sounds and improvised passages. Chief conductor Markus Poschner led his Bruckner Orchestra Linz with boldness and intensity and thanked them for the great musical achievements. The ladies of the hard choir also sang well. The Linz New Year’s Concert radiated a lot of future freshness and joy for 2023.Fred Dorfer, Kronen Zeitung
