In case of angina or cystitis, it is no longer necessary to see your doctor. As of this week, pharmacists can dispense antibiotics without patients needing to present a prescription.
Small revolution in the medical world. Pharmacists are now allowed to dispense antibiotics without patients having to present a doctor’s prescription. However, this process is only authorized for a patient who suffers from angina or cystitis and under certain access conditions.
The tests will be carried out directly on site
From now on, if you have a very sore throat or the feeling of having a urinary infection, you can now go directly to see your pharmacist. After a series of questions to ensure that you do not require a medical consultation, he will have to carry out a test in a dedicated room.
For angina, this involves a small sample with a swab at the back of the throat and for cystitis, a urine test. If it is positive, therefore it is indeed a bacterial infection, and after checking that there are no contraindications, he will be able to give you the antibiotic at the necessary dosage.
Tests fully covered by Health Insurance
These new tasks will be very supervised; only pharmacists who have completed training will be able to carry out this dispensing. It will also remain subject to conditions of age and symptoms, for example patients with high fever, or pregnant women will be systematically referred to the attending physician.
The pharmacist will receive between 10 and 15 euros for each test which will be fully covered by Health Insurance.
