Android and iOS users can also receive warnings directly on their cell phones about natural disasters such as floods or storms in Germany. The NINA app is available from the Federal Office for Civil Protection and can be used to quickly spread nationwide warnings.

NINA: Disaster alerts on mobile phones

Not just last year’s Floods in some parts of Germany as well as in other European countries should be reason enough to install the free Nina warning app on your smartphone. Important reports on civil protection are available here directly as push notifications. These are based entirely on the location of the user, which must be entered in advance. Multiple locations can also be defined.

Depending on the level of danger, NINA is in high demand in Germany. For example, due to current severe weather warnings, the app is in 2nd place in the Apple App Store (see image above).

If you have NINA installed, you can too, depending on the dangerous situation individual warning tones furnish. There are different acoustic messages depending on the type of danger. There are also tips on how best to behave in the respective dangerous situation. Weather warnings from the German Weather Service are also part of NINA. NINA: Warning app still having difficulties

The installation of NINA is recommended in any case. But the app is not perfect. This is how important information about flooding is currently only published at state level. There is no more local information about NINA. Users should therefore perceive the app more as an additional and official source of information and not only inform themselves about it.
