The spectators in the parking lot in Copenhagen were really nothing to envy. With temperatures just above freezing and an unpleasant wind, they would have liked something warming on the pitch. A fine dribble here, a combination worth seeing there. Maybe even a spectacular goal.
But none of this was visible on the lawn. The two EURO participants started the European Championship year with a modest kick. The biggest upsets were the injury of goalie Yann Sommer in the first half, a pack formation with Granit .
Otherwise it was a typical test game without any major highlights. This doesn’t have to be a big concern for both teams, as there are still just under 3 months and a few test matches left until the European Championships. Nevertheless, one would have liked a little more edification.
Precise balls from Schär
Most of the Swiss offensive came from the left side, which Dan Ndoye worked on. Ruben Vargas was an asset but had no luck. Center striker Noah Okafor from AC Milan seemed a bit lost, he didn’t make many contacts with the ball. Xhaka, Remo Freuler and Denis Zakaria held tight in the center, but this trio was unable to stimulate the attack either.
Defensively, coach Murat Yakin’s team was good, and the Danes hardly appeared dangerous before Sommer or Mvogo. Yakin played with a three-man chain consisting of Manuel Akanji, Fabian Schär and Ricardo Rodriguez, which did its job well. Schär in particular skillfully shifted the game with some precise, long balls.
Shaqiri only comes after 76 minutes
Xherdan Shaqiri was only substituted on for Vargas by Yakin in the 76th minute. It was his 120th appearance in a national team uniform. Xhaka already has 122 appearances. These numbers are topped by Denmark’s captain Simon Kjaer, who played for his country for the 131st time. However, Okafors’ teammate at AC Milan had to be substituted after just over an hour.

On Tuesday, the national team will play another test match against Ireland in Dublin (seen live on SRF from 8:10 p.m.). At the beginning of June there will be home games against Estonia (June 4th in Lucerne) and Austria (June 8th in St. Gallen) before Switzerland starts the European Championship finals against Hungary on June 15th in Cologne.
