End of Operation Barkhane. French President Emmanuel Macron will officially announce the end of the anti-jihadist operation Barkhane in the Sahel on Wednesday, just under three months after the withdrawal of French soldiers from Mali. The Head of State, visiting Toulon, will deliver a speech which will notably be “an opportunity to officially mark the end of Operation Barkhane and to announce a significant adaptation of our bases in Africa”. This announcement will have no consequence on the French military presence in the region. Some 3,000 French soldiers are still deployed in Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso.

Start of the Route du rhum. The start of the 12th edition of the Route du rhum, initially scheduled for Sunday and postponed due to the weather, will be given Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. in Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine), in more lenient conditions. The 138 skippers entered were initially due to set off on Sunday, but the weather conditions – gusts of 100 km/h, rough seas with hollows of 6 to 7 meters – announced off Brittany had led to a postponement, a first in the racing history.

List of Didier Deschamps. The announcement of the list of the French team for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, a highlight of the preparation of the Blues for the World Cup, will take place on Wednesday, November 9 during the 8 p.m. newspaper of TF1. Always subject to the wildest rumors and the biggest questions from football fans, Didier Deschamps’ list will therefore be known only eleven days before the start of the World Cup, scheduled for November 20 to December 18 in the gas emirate.
