In the middle of the night – missing demented man discovered on the highway

On the night of Monday there was a major search because a man suffering from dementia had been reported missing from a nursing home in Velden. The 79-year-old was only discovered around 3:30 a.m.: A driver noticed the man on the hard shoulder on the southern motorway.

After all of the rooms in the home had been searched, the search continued outside the home. A personal tracking dog from the Samariterbund Carinthia rescue dog team was also on duty and followed a trail to Duell, where four search dogs were used in a forest. The missing person could not be found there.

At midnight the search was stopped for the time being, it should be continued at 8 a.m. But around 3:30 a.m., a car driver reported that he had noticed a man on the hard shoulder on the southern motorway near Pörtschach. The motorway police were alerted and were able to bring the 79-year-old to safety.

The large search operation, in which the police, police dog handlers, fire brigade members from Velden and Lind ob Velden and 14 rescue dogs from the Samaritan Association were involved, therefore no longer had to be continued.
