In the Netherlands, a famous drug mafia lawyer apprehended

Inez Weski, 68, the most famous criminal lawyer in the Netherlands, was arrested on Friday April 21 and her office in Rotterdam was raided. This unprecedented episode in the country’s judicial history marks a new twist in the fight between Dutch justice and the Mocro Maffia, the famous Dutch-Moroccan criminal group whose 17 alleged members have been on trial for three years in the suburbs of Amsterdam. Me Weski is the lawyer for Ridouan Taghi, 45, the alleged leader of these drug traffickers. Arrested at the end of 2019 in Dubai, he appears with his accomplices for 13 murders or attempted murders, drug trafficking and money laundering.

A very controversial figure, a long-time follower of gothic fashion, the lawyer is suspected of having facilitated communication between the head of the network, imprisoned in a high-security district, with members of his group or relations with him. ci, including Raffaele Imperiale, a Neapolitan mafia baron, arrested in the United Arab Emirates in 2021. Once behind bars, the mafioso, who coordinated drug trafficking between Dubai and Italy, made compromising revelations for Ridouan Taghi.

Me Weski, who has always denied rumors about his possible role as a “transmission belt”, could be indicted for participation in a criminal organization. Evidence of his role would have been provided by the decryption of communications made through the Sky ECC private messaging system, the Belgian police having managed to access their content in 2021.

Troubled role

Police sources have been talking for several months about the troubled role that the lawyer would have played, suspected in particular of having given a USB key containing various information to her client. Some of her colleagues evoked, in an attempt to defend her, possible threats that would have weighed on her.

The trial – dubbed “Marengo” – of the Mocro Maffia, surrounded by exceptional security measures (triple police barrage, army surveillance, drone overflight, masked civil party lawyers, etc.) has entered its final phase and should, in principle, be completed in October. Life imprisonment has been sought for the mastermind.

In a final attempt to delay the deadlines, Me Weski had, a few days ago, demanded additional hearings. In particular that of one of his colleagues who had mentioned a project of the intelligence services to kidnap or eliminate Ridouan Taghi in Dubai, before he was finally arrested. She also denounced the mistreatment that would have been inflicted on the mobster during his transfer to the Netherlands.
