In the Netherlands, a truck hits a group of people, killing six and injuring seven

Six people were killed in the accident, Saturday August 26, of a truck which drove into a group of people dining outside near Rotterdam, according to a report released Sunday by the Dutch police.

Seven people were also injured, one seriously, according to Mirjam Boers, a police spokeswoman. An initial assessment of the accident reported at least two dead and several injured.

The accident happened early Saturday evening when the Spanish-registered truck left the road in Zuidzijdsedijk, about 30 kilometers south of Rotterdam. “The truck drove into a group of people who were attending a neighborhood barbecue”, specified the Rotterdam police on its Twitter account. According to Mirjam Boers, the driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Photographs taken after the tragedy identified the truck as belonging to the company El Mosca, based in Spain. The truck driver, who was not injured, was arrested and taken into custody, according to NOS radio.
